Earlier this year, we had announced a redesign was on the way. Well, we have just taken another step toward the finish line.
The graphic elements are now ready, and we are moving forward with the building part of the process. With any luck we’ll be able to launch the newly designed electronicalist.com by the 4th of July.

Notes About Post Production
After finishing up this mix, I took it into Waveburner – Logic Studio’s mastering software. This is where I added track markers, so hedz that are listening on CD can flip through different trax. Of course I wanted to trim off the excess at the beginning and end of the file. Nobody wants to hear a 10 second gap at the beginning of their CD (or podcast episode). The levels on this mix turned out pretty good, but I couldn’t resist taking it a little further with some post production compression + expansion + EQ.
With that all squared away, it was time for export. Making CDs from Waveburner is easy. Just throw in a blank one and click the burn button. However, I also wanted to get an MP3 version for podcast and online streaming.
First I bounced the project, by selecting File > Bounce Project
Then I went looking for the actual sound file generated by the bounce project command. I noticed earlier that .wb3 file saved during the bounce project process are quite a bit larger than the standard .wb3 files, so I suspected that a PCM file was located in there somewhere. I found that CTRL clicking the file gives the option to Show Package Contents.
After that it was fairly straightforward to navigate to Audio > bouncedAudio.
Next step – Logic Studio’s media compression software, Compressor. I dragged the bouncedAudio file into Compressor and applied the default .mp3 encoding scheme from the Settings window: Apple > Podcasting > MP3 for Audio Podcasting.
I could have added in the .mp3 ID3 tags here via the Inspector window, but I didn’t. I just output to .mp3 and took that into iTunes where I added the ID3 annotations.
All in all, I’d say it’s a pretty straight forward workflow for anyone using Logic Studio.

It’s been almost a year since Electronica List was launched. For it’s birthday, let’s get a redesign together. Anyone interested is welcome to participate. Just fill out the contact form on Ethan Kent’s Web Development Site.
When re-skinning software I like to identify the functional elements that need to be integrated into the UI. I have identified the main elements and posted a list below. To add to this list list just post a comment to this article, and I’ll update as we go. Feel free to add ideas, or just identify elements that have not been noted yet.
